Downtown Austin should be at the top of your list if you’re looking for bustling activities day or night. Downtown is home to live music venues, historic theaters, fine-dining restaurants, and trendy boutiques. Staying in this neighborhood puts you at the center of the action!

South Austin

South Austin sits across the river from downtown and is a favorite destination for locals to visit. This neighborhood is a combination of old and new with trendy restaurants and bars spread among long-time Austin originals.

East Austin

East Austin is one of the city’s biggest and fastest-growing neighborhoods. It’s known for being one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Austin. In this area, you’ll find a wide range of cuisine and culture as well as galleries and colorful street art.

Visit Sixth Street

Sixth Street is a historic street and entertainment district in Austin. The street is bustling with restaurants, bars, and live music. Sixth Street is sure to capture the vibrancy of the city and it’s a favorite spot for locals.

Visit Zilker Park

Zilker Park is located in the heart of South Austin and is the perfect place if you’re looking to spend your day outdoors. The park offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, kayaking, jogging, and more! If it’s warm outside, you can even swim at Barton Springs, a natural underground spring-fed pool that stays a cool 68 degrees year-round.

Learn to Two-Step at The White Horse

While in Austin, don’t miss the chance to head over to The White Horse to get your Texas honky-tonk on. Two-stepping is a popular country dance and is one of Austin’s famous pastimes. The White Horse has live music and dancing every night of the week!

Hike Mount Bonnell

Take a hike up Mount Bonnell for the best views of Austin! This short hike is one of the highest points in Austin at 781 feet. The trail is free to access and even offers free parking!

See the Bats

Every evening at sunset from March to October, more than 1.5 million bats fly out from underneath the South Congress Bridge. Beneath this bridge lives the world’s largest urban colony of Mexican free-tailed bats. The sight of the bats flying across Lady Bird Lake is so amazing it draws in hundreds of spectators each night.



If you’re looking for breakfast or brunch in Austin, head to Paperboy. They offer creative breakfast dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, as well as high-quality coffee and bar options. Paperboy is open 8 am-2 pm Monday through Wednesday and 8 am-3 pm Thursday-Sunday.


For lunch, head to Austin’s first food hall, Fareground. With over 120 freshly made items from 6 eateries, there is something for everyone at Fareground. The food hall is open daily from 11 am to 9 pm and offers dining options such as burgers, sandwiches, salads, tacos, dumplings, Israeli street food, and so much more!


For a nice dinner, we recommend Aba. Aba is a hip spot serving seafood & Mediterranean classics such as kebabs, hummus & falafel in a gorgeous setting. They also offer rare, Mediterranean-inspired wines and hand-crafted, creative cocktails.


Austin, Texas is a lively city home to many bars great for drinking, dancing, and live music. A few of our favorites in the city include Upstairs at Caroline, Whisler’s, and Here Nor There. Looking for a wine bar? Try LoLo! Are you a beer drinker? Check out Southern Heights Brewing Company!

Best Way to Get Around

The easiest way to get around Austin is by bus or light rail. The Capital Metro is Austin’s public transit system and connects downtown with the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Taxi’s, Uber, Lyft, and Ride Austin – a local ride-hailing option – also operate in the area. For those looking to get a workout in while touring the city, there are several bike rental options available including Austin B-Cycle, Austin Bike Tours & Rentals, and more! Scooter rentals including Lime and Bird are also available in Austin.
